Identifying SWISS WATER® Process

Roasters use SWISS WATER® Process to decaffeinate their coffee brands. Many add the SWISS WATER® Process logo and/or the SWISS WATER® name to their packages as an identifier.

Here are some guidelines to help you determine whether your favorite coffee and coffee brand is decaffeinated using the SWISS WATER® Process.

Specialty Coffee Houses & Cafes

Look for the term SWISS WATER® Process or SWISS WATER® Decaf on the menu board or on in-store signage. Our distinctive logo may be displayed in the store or on whole bean packages. If in doubt, ask the barista which process was used to decaffeinate the coffee.

On Packaging and at Grocery Stores

In grocery stores, look for the logo or the SWISS WATER® Process description on packaging or on the label of bulk beans. Ideally, the logo will be placed up front and centre, however you may need to check side and rear panels for confirmation.

"Water Process" Doesn't Necessarily Mean Chemical-Free

Terms like Natural Process, Water Process and European Process are used to describe other decaffeination methods. Don't be fooled. These process descriptors do not guarantee that chemicals were not used to decaffeinate the coffee. There is only one SWISS WATER® Process. Insist on it by name for 100% chemical-free decaffeination.
